how Accessibile is the clinic?

There are stairs to access the clinic room, as it is based in an old building. Please factor this into your decision making when booking an appointment. I am very happy to discuss this further via email.

What happens during our first session?

We will discuss the nature of your injury, illness or disability as part of a detailed history. Following this, I will undertake a thorough assessment and physical examination based on our findings. Very often, treatment will then begin during our first session as well.

Do i need to see the gp first?

No, you don’t need to have seen your GP first as someone who is self-referring and paying for treatment themselves. If you have concerns regarding physiotherapy and your health please contact your GP, and feel free to email me with questions as well.

can i bring someone with me?

Yes you can - chaperones are always welcome should you feel you need one. Please provide these yourself wherever possible, and do let me know before our appointment.

is physiotherapy a version of massage?

Physiotherapy is more than a massage session. Physiotherapy requires a high level of training in order to safely assess, diagnose and treat a variety of injuries, illnesses and disabilities, and to identify when to refer people on to other healthcare professionals if physiotherapy isn’t the correct course of treatment. Treatment does sometimes involve massage techniques as part of manual therapy.

how does payment work?

Payment can be made in clinic either by direct bank transfer, stripe, or card payment. Cash is not accepted.

what should i wear to my appointment?

You will need to be able to move around comfortably in the clinic, so it’s important to wear (or bring) comfortable clothing. There is a space available for you to change. Commonly, people will wear gym kit, running clothing or similar. Please contact me if you remain unsure.

For sports massage, it’s important to note that the area we are working on will need to be uncovered.

Do you offer manual therapy?

Manual therapy is an important part of physiotherapy and pain control. Physiotherapy as a whole centres around core, evidence-based strategies involving expert advice, thorough assessment, exercise and self-management, and manual therapy is not considered effective without these elements in place.

how many appointments will i need?

Each physiotherapy treatment plan is unique and tailored to individuals. However, it’s worth noting that it usually takes approximately 5 sessions to achieve your goals (which we will set together during our first session).

will my first appointment involve treatment?

If there is time, we will definitely begin treatment during your first appointment. On occasion, the very important process of gathering history and conducting a thorough physical examination can take longer than anticipated, so our second session will be more treatment focused. You will never leave an appointment with nothing to do, however!
